My friend Skip Moellman sent me some flowers from Hawaii a few years ago and I took several pictures of the beautiful flowers. One of the flowers was a Bird of Paradise. I was intrigued with the several in the bouquet and took one out as it almost appeared to have the face of a beautiful bird at the base of the flower. This is my rendering of that beautiful flower. You should see its red eye and it mouth as well. They say perception is reality to the one perceiving. I see a BIRD of Paradise when I look at this flower. Enjoy it and remember that art should make you feel many emotions. This one is intended to make you smile.
As a painter, my goal is to inspire, not just reproduce a subject on a canvas. I like my colors bold with subjects drawn in large, generous forms. I want my work to touch the inner impulse and passion of my viewers. To me, producing art is liberating. Whether I work directly from a perceived subject, plain air, or abstractly, I am most concerned about the work's overall composition and formal aspects. My colors tend to be bright and bold. Bright colors make me happy, and I aspire to convey that feeling to my viewers and customers. I am a native of Sikeston, Missouri, and a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, with a BS in Historic Preservation.
