This scene, so planned and perfect, makes me think of the 1950s when people were all patriotic. This is the corner of the American Legion Park and Main Street in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. The college town is very conservative and mid-western in their thinking. On Memorial Day and the Forth of July they decorate this corner in red, white and blue, have an honor guard parade for 48 hours. Members of the American Legion encourage and promote the American spirit. I enjoyed living in Cape for over ten years and enjoyed the people. This picture reminds me of the American dream, her values and the respect and honor she deserves. God Bless America!!
As a painter, my goal is to inspire, not just reproduce a subject on a canvas. I like my colors bold with subjects drawn in large, generous forms. I want my work to touch the inner impulse and passion of my viewers. To me, producing art is liberating. Whether I work directly from a perceived subject, plain air, or abstractly, I am most concerned about the work's overall composition and formal aspects. My colors tend to be bright and bold. Bright colors make me happy, and I aspire to convey that feeling to my viewers and customers. I am a native of Sikeston, Missouri, and a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, with a BS in Historic Preservation.
