Artist's Description

I am a fan of Thomas Hart Benton's artwork. This is my interpretation of his famous "The Race" painting. My great-granddaughter was over looking at my paintings and she said, "Mimi, why don't you paint this with a night sky?" You can guess what I did.

As a painter, my goal is to inspire, not just reproduce a subject on a canvas. I like my colors bold with subjects drawn in large, generous forms. I want my work to touch the inner impulse and passion of my viewers. To me, producing art is liberating. Whether I work directly from a perceived subject, plain air, or abstractly, I am most concerned about the work's overall composition and formal aspects. My colors tend to be bright and bold. Bright colors make me happy, and I aspire to convey that feeling to my viewers and customers. I am a native of Sikeston, Missouri, and a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, with a BS in Historic Preservation.
