My friend, Courtney Yoes, took me to her mother's house last year to view her flower garden. There were many wonderful flowers but the sunflowers really stood out with their tall stacks and beautiful flowers. Our art guild had a special assignment late last year to do an interpretation of a Van Gogh painting. This is the results of my studying Van Gogh. It is a combination of views in my photograph and one of his sunflower paintings. My granddaughter, Rebecca Havard, has asked for this painting so I am now painting another one similar to this sunflower for myself. I hope people will purchase this print and enjoy the bright and happy sunflower as much as I do.
As a painter, my goal is to inspire, not just reproduce a subject on a canvas. I like my colors bold with subjects drawn in large, generous forms. I want my work to touch the inner impulse and passion of my viewers. To me, producing art is liberating. Whether I work directly from a perceived subject, plain air, or abstractly, I am most concerned about the work's overall composition and formal aspects. My colors tend to be bright and bold. Bright colors make me happy, and I aspire to convey that feeling to my viewers and customers. I am a native of Sikeston, Missouri, and a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, with a BS in Historic Preservation.
